Filter Bubbles

Hey guys, I'm not exactly back one hundred percent but what I want to share with you is something you might not have heard of. If you have, you might have never knew that it is this severe.

Facebook.

Have you ever wondered why some of your friends get more likes than you on Facebook sometimes? Is there a real secret behind it? Well let me tell you this. Facebook actually tracks down the links you open on Facebook. Who's profile have you opened, what link you have opened, with whom do you interact with. Well, the thing is, the links and people whose profile you have opened? Yeah, Facebook makes sure you see more of their posts than those that you have not opened. Sometimes they even remove other peoples news in your feed without you knowing it. This actually answered my question of, if I'm friends with 2,000 people on Facebook, how can it be that I'll be seeing all of their updates? Surely I would miss a lot. That is true, and that's why you only see certain posts from certain friends!

Google

I don't think that this is surprising though. But I should make it clearer here. If you searched from one computer on Google and searched from another computer using Google, chances are, you will get different results! I'm not kidding, go ahead, try it out! Google makes a record on everything related to you. It will know your computer type, what browser you are using, and even where you live! My god. These are being done whilst you are happily searching on Google!

So what does the title up there mean you ask?

Filter Bubbles are like this. You like Islam. You Google it. Then comes out all these nice results about Islam. The teachings, the principles, the beliefs, and etc. But, if another person around the world who despises Islam Googles the same word, his results might come out different, it might have posts on terrorism, the news of terrorist, etc. You get the idea.

Here's the video that reveals it all.

Amazing: Artificial flying bird.

I've always dreamed of a day where humans could build robots that could fly like birds. It's amazing that they can do it already! Check out this video. The intro might be boring but rest assured, it will be something worth the wait.

A New Start..

"You have 30 minutes to revise", the lecturer announced. By then I knew what was coming. We all anticipated it. News like this travels like wildfire. I was one of those unlucky enough to only find out an hour before the tutorial class. "I shall give you some questions after this", finished the lecturer.

I wasn't exactly in the mood for such an event. The night before I was feeling sick and my condition worsened the next day. In fact, I had a mild headache during the test. To make matters worse, I forgot my notes. I guess I was lucky enough to have a friend share her notes with me.

"Time's up"

It seems as if those words were echoing for an eternity as I waited for the questions to be presented on the projector screen.

5 questions were presented before me. All of them I had answers to. But which one should I pick?

I took the easiest one. (Which is so obvious)

Discuss statehood in the international blah blah. LOL. It's not that I don't like the subject. I seriously can't remember the question.

When I finally finished answering. There were only a few of us left in the class. Then I walked out.

My motive of telling you this pointless story? I had nothing better to do. HAHA

P/S: Don't get mad.. :P.. They say you age faster if you are mad all the time. Teehee.

Why My English Is Quite Okay So To Speak

Often, I do get inquiries in regards of my proficiency in communicating using the English language. I do not wish to brag, but I also do not intend on being too humble about it. I would say my English prowess is quite mediocre but some would disagree and think that my words have insulted them in some way. Therefore I believe that I should make it clear that maybe, the definition of a good command in the English language might be different in some respects to different individuals.

What you believe to be good might be bad for some people. The whole mechanism goes around standards. I am sure we all have different standards in judging others in terms of their skills in a particular thing. Now the thing is, I need you to do this. Imagine a person being raised in a family that uses the English language as a means of communicating on a daily basis. Now think about it this way. Do you think that person would have a low standard when it comes to judging English proficiency? No. He will have a high standard. Not because he is snobbish. But because he was raised that way. He knows what is a real good English speaker. Most probably he won't regard himself the best as he knows that he is just on a common standard.

Now imagine the average person. Living in a family where English is not spoken widely. They might once in awhile use some English words but never do they speak only in English for any sentence that comes out of their mouths. Now an individual from this upbringing will most probably regard those who are able to speak English in full sentences without having trouble finishing the sentence as skilled English speakers. This might be true in some cases but the fact is, that particular individual was raised that way. Therefore there is a space in between those raised to speak in English and those who have grown up and are struggling to get a grip on the language.

If you are interested in knowing why on earth am I babbling up until here, let me tell you now, why.

The thing is, I was raised by my parents who were graduates of University of Reading in the United Kingdom. I believe their higher education might have had an impact on how I was raised. I remember when I was in Nursery. I was able to speak in mandarin and English. I do not recall speaking in Malay really. When I entered primary school, I guess I forgot Mandarin. The early years were quite a blur, but I remember my last years in primary school. My school was owned by the government and the church right beside it. St. Mark in Butterworth, Penang. Now during my last years there I was particularly fond of befriending friends from other races. Chinese, and Indians. They were some of my best friends then. With them I spoke mostly English. This might have had an impact on who I am today.

Now in secondary school, my friends did not appreciate me speaking in English that much, or at least that was what I could gather from the look of their faces. Being in an environment that unknowingly restricts the usage of English made it hard for me to further apply my love for the language. This lead to the deterioration of my English efficiency. Luckily I joined the debate club and became the president. My English skills were then polished again. I had a chance to further intensify my love for this subject. Joining the "English Club" then didn't really help. Can you imagine an "English Club" that has members who spoke in Malay? What an embarrassment. In the end I found my love in debating. I guess thats partially why I chose to take up law. Thats why I am right here right now.

But the thing that irks me now is the fact that some people still do not want to even try and speak in English and complain when they are unable to understand English based subjects. I agree, my road made it easier for me to conquer some parts of the English language but that doesn't mean you have to give up. The fact of the matter is, with practice with the right people, your English will become superb in no time.

What Burns My Spirit

Warning! This post has ramblings, If you do not approve of an individuals complaining, please do not carry on.

Some people have asked me this.

What?

What?

What?

What is it that burns my spirit to strive in my studies? Although I am far from being a success, people still want to know. You know what? I'll tell you anyway.

The thing that burns my spirit is thinking about those who have pushed me down so hard that it makes me want to show them that they are nothing. I am constantly on the run of proving them that I am better than them. To tell you the truth, as much as I aspire to smack them in the head, I find it more pleasing to show those blundering idiots a piece of my mind through laughing when I reach the top. I know it sounds somewhat devilish but that's what moves me.

I've had countless people who have either harmed me verbally or physically, and the outcomes of which I seek are often visible. They say,

"What goes around, comes back around."

"What you give, you get back."

Rarely do these individuals escape from my belief in karma. They often end up worse than what they had done to me. I'm not going to lie. It always feels good. I do not easily forgive people, especially those who have humiliated me. Instead, my output is through shutting up and humiliating them silently by proving that they have nothing to be proud of, and that they can reminisce on the things they have done to me and regret it because what's done is done.

Am I one of them you ask? Seriously, don't worry, most probably you're not one of them. Cause if you are, you won't be asking that question.

What Happens Now?

I have to say.. I've abandoned this blog for awhile.. I guess I'm at loss for words here.. Its like having writers block.. Ideas do not flow to me as frictionless as before.. It devours a much more devastating time limit as before.. You know that moment in life.. When your fingers are on the keyboard and there's nothing you can do about the abyss of obscure conceptions which arise in your head.. It's not that no such thought has emanated from your mind.. It's just.. It takes time to comprehend what you want to expound exactly..

The presence of ideas itself do not promise a means of exhibiting it.. What is present doesn't always have to be seen.. I'm surprised you've been reading up to this point..

Enough with the ramblings..

To the very impetus that you are reading this.. What happens now refers to my question onto what will happen to us now? I ask myself whether such a inquiry is appropriate.. We are often mesmerized by what we are going through that sometimes we forget the future is unknown.. Don't we realize that what we have now may perish tomorrow? That what we have today might not appear tomorrow? That our lives are something of uncertainty, and that anything goes..

This post does not wish to provoke a feeling of uneasiness.. Rather.. It aims at being a catalyst of living a life that has value..

I've had colleagues who have complained that this is hard.. That is hard.. But from what I see.. They do not invest their time in improving what they deem as hard.. Then why do they question such a predicament? They have brought it upon themselves.. They have failed to understand the fact that what they do today will effect tomorrow.. Isn't that just obvious? But why do they still play around like fools?

The government gives them support.. Allowances.. Not for them to fool around.. The money is given as a responsibility.. To use for the sake of their future.. How dare they question the amount if the effort they put into studying is minimal..

So I really have to say.. If you want something.. Do something..

That's the easiest way of obtaining something.. My way is different maybe.. But who knows if you can use my method and succeed better?

Time To Register Courses!

Hah! Gotcha! ^^,.. Well, I'm sorry for surprising you like that.. But seriously.. Maybe this will make you think about it..

Well.. You know the message that pops up when you click the register course button? The..

"An error occurred on the server when processing the URL. Please try again, before you contact system admin."

Well, I clicked it and another screen came out.. It said for matriculation registration.. So I clicked it.. And then that thing came up.. I was so nervous.. Then I realised that there wasn't any groups registered in it.. -.-".. Bummer.. But the subjects were the right ones.. Maybe its a sign that registration time is near?

Uncertain Future

Before I move on to why the title is like that, let me apologize for not updating my blog these few days.. :).. Sorry guys.. Been busy on my other blog..

"I don't know what my plans are for the future", "What will be, will be", and "I'll just go with the flow". Have you guys ever heard of these phrases before?

I'm pretty sure you have. So what's my point? Well.. My point is.. Those phrases are "cool" and all but I have a feeling that the individual who uttered these very phrases aren't really planning for their future.. Which to me isn't a big deal since you are not me.. But to me.. If I said those things.. I'd be probably be really going nowhere.

"Those who fail to plan, plan to fail"

Seriously.. If you don't plan your future now.. You ain't going nowhere.. I know how hard it is sometimes.. You get scared.. You freak out.. Just the thought of not achieving what you put to mind could be devastating.. But, at least you have a goal.. I'm really sick of my friends (some of them) who tell me, "Hey! God has a plan for all of us. So lets kick back and enjoy the show!". If you say that I hope god gives you a smack in the head. Cause you didn't even care to put in much effort into it.

If a guy runs in a race. Will he run passionately if he doesn't know what he'll achieve when he wins?  I doubt it. He'll be taking his time strolling around cause he doesn't have a goal to achieve. In fact, he'd probably be taking a nap enjoying the show.

Bla.. Bla.. Bla.. Yeah.. I sound like a big babbling oaf right? LOL.. Whatever.. Cause this is special for you guys who think that you shouldn't plan for your future.. I mean, be prepared with an umbrella before it rains (sediakan payung sebelum hujan) You might not know what the future might hold but it's a good thing if you have a plan anyway..

I just thought this was funny.. ^^,

Humpty Dumpty Used as Authority In Court?

Believe it or not. This isn't an April Fools Prank. Humpty appears in Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking-Glass (1872), where he discusses semantics and pragmatics with Alice (Alice In Wonderland).

“I don’t know what you mean by ‘glory,’ ” Alice said.
Humpty Dumpty smiled contemptuously. “Of course you don’t—till I tell you. I meant ‘there’s a nice knock-down argument for you!’ ”
“But ‘glory’ doesn't mean ‘a nice knock-down argument’,” Alice objected.
“When I use a word,” Humpty Dumpty said, in a rather a scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less.”
“The question is,” said Alice, “whether you can make words mean so many different things.”
“The question is,” said Humpty Dumpty, “which is to be master      that’s all.”
Alice was too much puzzled to say anything, so after a minute Humpty Dumpty began again. “They’ve a temper, some of them—particularly verbs, they’re the proudest—adjectives you can do anything with, but not verbs—however, I can manage the whole lot! Impenetrability! That’s what I say!”

This passage was used in Britain by Lord Atkin and in his dissenting judgement in the seminal case Liversidge v. Anderson (1942), where he protested about the distortion of a statute by the majority of the House of Lords. It also became a popular citation in United States legal opinions, appearing in 250 judicial decisions in the Westlaw database as of April 19, 2008, including two Supreme Court cases (TVA v. Hill and Zschernig v. Miller).

In Liversidge v Anderson [1942] AC 206, Lord Atkin said,

"I know of only one authority, which might justify the suggested method of construction. 'When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, 'it means just what I choose it to mean, neither more nor less'. 'The question is,' said Alice, 'whether you can make words mean so many different things.' 'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be the master, that's all.' After all this long discussion, the question is whether the words 'If a man has' can mean 'If a man thinks he has'. I have an opinion that they cannot and the case should be decided accordingly."

So, is it applicable in Malaysia?

In other parts of the Commonwealth such as Singapore and Malaysia, the courts have generally followed the majority decision in Liversidge. In Singapore, the case of Re Ong Yew Teck saw the arrest of a man under the Singaporean Criminal (Temporary Provisions) Ordinance 1955, which granted police officers the power to arrest and detain anyone "whom he has reason to believe that there is ground to justify his arrest and detention under s. 47" of the ordinance. The detainee appealed, arguing that the phrase "has reason to believe" meant that an objective test of reasonableness was to be used, citing Nakkuda Ali. Justice Chua rejected this argument, and accepted the majority decision in Liversidge as persuasive precedent. In Malaysia, the case which established the subjective test of reasonableness for executive actions was Karam Singh v. Menteri Hal Ehwal Dalam Negeri. The case, heard by the Federal Court in 1969, remains as binding precedent in Malaysia. In the case, the appellant had been detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA), but the statement of the Home Minister giving the grounds for his detention provided only one reason, even though his detention order had initially stated there were more. It was argued that the Home Minister had taken a "casual and cavalier" approach to the detention, and that because the allegations against the appellant had been unduly vague, the Home Minister had acted in bad faith, thereby voiding the detention. The court held that the detention was good, because it could not assess the actions of the executive, applying the subjective test of reasonableness as Liversidge had.

UiTM Law Foundations is Now Only Two Semesters

All these while.. I've had countless individuals who have told me that next semester.. The new law foundation students will only be taking foundations for two semesters. I am not one to be easily influenced by such tales if there are no justifications. I do apologize if I have doubted some of you because here are the proof that there is no more 3 semesters for law foundations anymore..

This is the E0600 program

This is the E0601 program (which was before this 3 semesters)

Memories Fade.. But The Scars Still Linger..

As I lay on my bed, I ponder upon the events that have unraveled around me throughout my life.. Emptiness fills my heart.. None more can be said about it..

Laughter.. Giggles.. Smiles..

They mean to me nothing but mere memories.. Occurrences in the past that haunts us.. Though most of us would certainly adore the idea of living in the past.. That is, if the memories were worth reliving.. If they weren't, then we would be more keen on looking into the future.. Even if the future is obscured.. One would only prefer it when the past has shed scars in our mind..

Every moment in life we discern emotions.. As those are the thoughts that are memorized by us most in memories.. When we remember something.. We often feel these feelings as it bolsters our spiritual being.. We perceive memories mostly in emotional states.. We forget the details.. Time and time again we reconstruct the scenes in our heads with only what pleases us..

By now you would have realized that I have been rambling about.. Talking about memories.. But I am sure you have dwelled in your past and relived some of the moments that have inspired you in your life.. What I want to convey here is that.. Keep those memories in mind.. They are the reason why you are who you are.. They are the reason you are here today.. It is okay to reminisce the past.. So long as you don't forget that you are living in the present.. And that the future is always upon us.. No matter how rough the current situation is.. Just remember..

You've made it this far.. Why stop now? If you do.. All the memories you have kept in your mind will go to waste.. Those scars came into existing for nothing..

Bored At Home? Let Me Help.

.
.
.
.
.
.

If you are really bored, then you would've waited until the word appeared.. :P

I guess if you were reading this in the first place.. Then you must be bored.. HAHA.. Okay let me give you some suggestions on the things that you can do if you are bored..

1. Do not press the red button.
I found this amusing for awhile.. :D

2. Go out for a walk.
I know.. It's not exactly what you would describe as fun but seriously.. Get a fresh breath of air.. It's better than being couped up in your room.. :P.. When you are outside.. Take time to appreciate nature.. Look at people.. Look for inspiration.. Maybe you'll learn something!

3. YouTube
I guess you've watched YouTube before.. But what have you been searching for exactly? Maybe you should find other things to search for.. Examples include movie trailers.. Then you can decide what movies to watch next time instead of just going there and taking time to decide.. :)..

4. Get updated
Most teenagers don't get updated with the things around them.. I mean their usual reasons include, "We're too busy", and "I have assignments!".. So what about now? Now you're free.. Do something beneficial.. Read the news.. You have so many choices from The Star, BBC, Reuters, Bernama, and even Bloomberg..

5. Get in contact with friends!
Seriously, some of when at home are good as out of sight out of mind.. I mean seriously? You're at home and suddenly you disappear.. As if you never existed.. Maybe some socializing can be good for you.. Relationships have to be built somehow.. Since you don't have anything better to do.. Maybe you can start talking to the guy or girl you've always wanted to know better.. Who knows.. Maybe sparks will fly? :D

6. Get a new hobby
Well, hobbies are supposed to be beneficial stuff.. But who defines what is beneficial to us? Ourselves right? So if it fills up our time and it is not illegal  and we want to do it.. Then I guess its a hobby.. :P.. Have you tried Blogging? Drawing? Reading? If not, why not try? Most probably you can do those free of charge.. So why not?

7. Learn
You could always opt to learn something.. A new language maybe? Or even learn about the cultures of another country.. You could also learn about the possible subjects that you are going to take next semester (if you are a university student of course).. When you learn.. What do you lose? You get information.. You get to know new things.. So learn away!

8. Ermm
You know what.. I'm out of ideas.. Maybe you should ask Mr. Google? HAHA

Facebook worm eh?

:).. Seriously.. Why did I put the above image? I don't know why either.. LOL.. Anyway.. Here's to any questions regarding the worm spreading around in Facebook through your chats.. Its in Malay by the way.. :P

5 blogs.. :)

So here's the thing.. I have 5 blogs.. :D.. Four of 'em are in English.. But I'm starting another one in Malay.. LOL.. I've always wanted to write a Malay blog mind you.. Seeing that my Malay isn't that good.. In fact.. I dare say it is very bad.. I've always envied certain bloggers that write in Malay..

Examples here and here..

Yeah.. They might use a little English once in awhile but it doesn't matter.. I still read every post they publish.. Word after word.. Stunning.. :D.. To me.. It's not the vocabulary that matters.. It's how they convey their messages.. How they structure their sentences.. Those are the things that make them unique..

That is what makes a blog great.. The presentation.. How they write.. That's what makes me blog.. It runs in my blood.. LOL.. Okay.. That was too much.. :P..

Here is the link to my Malay blog by the way.. http://akusukamembebel.blogspot.com/.. I doubt there is a post when you open it.. But.. Try.. :P

PS: I guess by now you realize i have changed my blog layout.. HAHA.. If you have any comments about it tell me.. :P

My Pointer's Going Down..

Some of you will be going.. What? You've got to be kidding..

All spot questions that you got hit the spot.. I agree.. I didn't say it didn't.. But that is also the main reason why I believe my results are going to deteriorate this semester..

Where are the justifications you ask?

Fact 1: I don't study as much if I know what questions are coming out.

Fact 2: I tend to get overconfident when I get the questions during the exam.

Fact 3: I will always get overexcited when I answer the questions until I don't have enough time to answer. (MTC 037 Part C)

Fact 4: I always think I know everything.. Until I get the questions.. (Not all spot questions come out mind you)

So.. These are my justifications for why I think my pointer will go down.. I bet some of you might have some other factors why you think a similar situation might occur to you.. But, regardless of whatever happens.. I know my results will be a mirror of me.. At least that's what everyone else will say.. *Duh

So.. Instead of being sad.. I should look at pictures like this one below..

If you think your pointer is going down too.. I suggest you do the same.. :P

Fear Compels Us Not To Try..

If you don't understand my original quote.. Let me enlighten you on its meaning..

We as humans.. Tend to fear the future.. Of its possibilities.. Of its consequences.. That we forget that with trying we have taken one step towards success.. Although that step may become as close as you can get to success.. At least you tried.. If you don't succeed in what you want.. You've succeeded in trying..

Dorothy Thompson once said,

"Only when we are no longer afraid do we begin to live"

I'm not an exclusion to this however.. I too am afraid to try.. For fear of rejection.. For fear of losing what is comfortable.. For fear of the unknown..

I urge myself and others.. To do our best in our lives.. To strive and try to achieve what we want.. For that only if we try.. Will we know.. What we are capable of.. And if we fail.. We know.. We can always.. Try.. And try again.. Until..

We finally succeed..

Arrr!! :D.. Study Group!!

Hi-ho thar!

I get keal hauled pretty quick 'n I be predictin' thats when ye discover new thin's.. So that's what happened t' me just now.. Aye, me parrot concurs..
I get bored verily quickly and I be predictin' I just happened t' have time t' play around with the Facebook translations.. So I tried the pirate translations and I got t' admit. Tis' pretty amusin'. Ye'll ne'er get me buried booty!

Okay.. Enough with the pirate talk.. :P.. Moving on to business.. Study week for me is one of the most boring weeks of all time.. So it's going to start next week and I'm not too amused.. I better start arranging study groups from now on.. :/.. Anyone interested do tell me.. I need to get as much information in and out of me ASAP..  (Out meaning I have to teach)..

Well.. Teaching has been one of my methods of studying for awhile now.. (Yeah.. It's weird) But, everytime I teach.. The thing that I am teaching about automatically goes into my head.. Not to say that I'm that smart to be able to teach people.. (I'm really trying not to be cocky here) I refer to notes mind you.. So if I sound like I know something.. Its probably because I've told someone else about it before you.. The thing that makes studying in a group fun is that everybody knows a little bit of something.. So when you compile 'em together.. BOOM.. You get a wide range of information in front of you.. Thats what I did last semester.. But last semester I had this one friend, Farah.. I used to do study groups with her.. Since this semester she is no longer here.. I really need to find another study group.. Or more.. So.. I guess that's it..

*Yeah.. I realize it sounds kinda like a plea.. Please be my in my study group.. Wooo.. Please... HAHA.. But seriously.. I just want to learn.. I can't learn on my own.. :P.. That's just not me..

A Blend of Feelings.. :)

So many things have occurred throughout last week..
That I am unable to decide which one to talk about first.. :)

Lets start with this one.. :D

The fact that they wanted to do the farewell party on such a short notice was enough for me to go..

The event was scheduled for tomorrow.. But that was fine.. I was at my aunts house when they told me.. It was odd when Ain suddenly said that she wanted to cancel it when I said I might not make it.. So I then thought to myself..

"Meeting them is better than playing GTA IV the whole day.."

So I decided to meet them.. :)..

The next day..

We got to ECM and had our brunch.. Farah Atiqah was supposed to come but I didn't say anything.. Then we went into the karaoke center..  Then she sent a message saying she wasn't coming.. I showed it to Shainaz and she laughed.. I wondered why.. Then.. I thought to myself.. Its cool.. After a few songs.. Suddenly.. I saw the words "Happy Birthday Song" on the karaoke set.. Before you know it.. Everyone sang..

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU.. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU.."

Then, out of the blue.. Farah came in with this..

And I was like..

SPEECHLESS.. :P

Future Lawyers.. CBE.. You Need To Know..

For those of you who didn't know it.. There have been some news going about regarding the road onto becoming a lawyer..

First.. Let me introduce.. CBE.. Source : The Star

I doubt most of you would have opened the link.. :P.. But here are the main points which I believe is crucial to be understood about BCE..

"The Bar Council has been advocating a Common Bar Course and Examination (CBE) since the 1980s as a single entry point to the legal profession for both local and foreign law graduates."

"It is understood that the delay in implementing the CBE is partly due to objections from local universities."

"But it cannot be gainsaid that the quality and standard of lawyers have also declined significantly since the 1980s. There is a common feeling among senior legal practitioners that there is an “abject absence of rudimentary legal skills” among the new entrants."

So basically CBE is supposed to be an exam to help filter or pick the creme de la creme of potential lawyers.. These statistics should open up your eyes..

Also, as of Jan 28, 2011:
> There were 13,346 lawyers; of whom 6,992 and 6,354 are respectively men and women.
> In terms of ethnicity, there were 5,190 Malays; 5,025 Chinese; 2,517 Indians; 485 Punjabis and 129 Eurasians and others.
> In terms of number of years of practice, there were 1972 lawyers with one to three years of practice; 2,037 (three to seven years); 2,983 (seven to 12 years); 4,244 (12 to 20 years) and 2,110 lawyers have 20 years of practice or more.
> In terms of age, 2,384 lawyers were under 30; 4847 (31-40); 3,537 (41-50); 1,648 (51-60) and 930 lawyers were aged 60 and above.
All these information has been extracted from The Star.. :)

My opinion?
I guess its only logical that such a thing is going to be implemented.. I mean, 1000 lawyers per year? That's a lot.. If you think about it, it should've been executed ages ago.. There's obviously going to be an overflow of lawyers.. By filtering them.. We should get the most qualified individuals who are capable of doing their jobs right.. After all.. They are going to be individuals who will be helping other people to obtain justice.. We only want the best to do just that.. But since there is no clear say on this.. I can only hope whatever happens is for the best.. :)

Maybe You Should Think About Changing Courses..

Poww!!

How did that entry hit you? :P.. Must've hurt eh? Let me give you the full sentence delivered..

"If you think you can't manage your time well during your law foundations.. Maybe you should think about changing courses.."

Basically, for the past week.. I've been scrutinizing everybody.. Seeing all their excuses that law subjects are hard.. That there are loads of assignments.. When in my view.. The truth is..

"There isn't many.."

By now I guess some of my readers are saying..

"What?"
"You better take that back loser!"
and the occasional..
"Boooo!!"

Well.. For those who are doing law right now.. You have to understand.. We are only in foundations.. There's a reason why they call this foundations..

Foundations - education or instruction in the fundamentals of a field of knowledge

Even if this foundations in law is hard.. We here in Kuantan have three semesters to finish the whole program.. In Shah Alam.. There is one that uses up only two semesters.. Imagine cramping up three semesters into two!

Now, back to the quote.. Who said this? Well.. The seniors in UiTM Shah Alam.. I remember the exact words that have been uttered by their own mouths.. In foundations, the DL (Deans List) will be abundant.. In BLS they will be an extinct species.. In LLB.. They'll be individuals with no life.. With that being said.. The graph below further intensifies what I am trying to convey to all of you..

*Yeah.. Its a lame graph.. I get it..

But thats not the point.. Regardless of whatever course you take.. Its only going to get harder as you go up.. I've never heard a doctor saying.. "Learning about medical blah blahs is fun.. The higher you learn.. The more simple things are"..

I'm not saying you can't complain.. I'm just saying.. You should brace yourselves if you wish to continue to a higher level of education in law.. Or any courses that you are taking for non-law students.. Although.. I must inform you.. You have to be strong willed.. In whatever you do..

The information in this post only contains my thoughts and beliefs which I have formed under the influence of individuals, occurrences and feelings. At no point at all have I had the intention of attacking any individuals, organisations, or governmental bodies. You have the right to agree, disagree, and even say that I'm crazy in writing this post. I am acting in my own personal capacity.

UiTM Shah Alam: Mooting Workshop

On Friday, 11th February 2011, a colleague of mine approached yours truly and said. " Dude, are you going to the moot workshop this Saturday?". I solemnly said, "I guess not". If the conversation ended just like that then my post today wouldn't have exhibited such a title.. :P..

So what happened? He replied, "You should go, mooting is fun". So I pondered upon the possibility of going. My inner thoughts were saying, "You have assignments", "It's just for one day", "It's in Shah Alam", "You're so going to be tired", "Mooting will be done in a court setting". The last thought struck me.

I've been taking law subjects but I've never been in a court setting.

So basically that's how I decided to go to the moot workshop. That decision turned out to be one of the best decisions I've made in awhile. Not only did I get to scrutinize the Law Faculty more elaborately. I've managed to feel the situation in a court albeit a fake one. Mooting is basically a simulated court proceeding (either an appellate court or an arbitration case) presented with a memorial. Prior to this workshop, I was made understood by others that moot was a long and gruesome process that would take months to research on. The last statement is partially true. That some questions are longer than others are the reason why some mooting competitions need a longer time to prepare for in contrast to the rest. My last sentence didn't seem grammatically correct. :/.. Moving on. The language used was exceptional. Mooting will help in my law subjects as it is the application of law itself. Plus, if I am lucky enough to continue my studies in Shah Alam in the BLS course mooting will be part of the syllabus in part 4.

This experience has been a valuable one. I believe it could be one that can be the start to a future in mooting. God willing. The seniors who have helped us immensely, I personally am thankful for your willingness to educate us all on this topic.

Moving on to the Law Faculty..

This would be where I would be going if I was given the chance to pursue my LLB degree.. :).. At first I was unable to comprehend why there were two parts of the Law Faculty.. Then one of the facilitators who gave the tour told me that this part that I've never ventured into before this was for the LLB students..

How I wish to be a part of the deans list.. :/..

The third floor of the library in UiTM Shah Alam.. Can you imagine the whole floor being filled by only law books.. This picture only shows a small portion of the whole floor mind you..

All in all.. I would say this trip has served as a catalyst for me to work harder to strive for my BLS and LLB degree in Shah Alam.. :)
